For some reason, I've mistakenly been assigned title of "supermom" by many of my relatives. 99% of my children's lives are spent playing Nintendo, watching TV and fighting, eating mostly Raman noodles and cereal and spaghettios. We don't venture out much. I'm not a crafty person. And lately I've barely been able to muster enough energy to even get them dressed in the morning. I'm as far from supermom as a mom can possibly get. But, every once in awhile I find it in me to make an ordinary day a super day. Today was one of them.
School was cancelled due to a "Noreaster" that didn't amount to much, but left everything white and slippery. So, we had Hunter home from school and proceeded with preschool as usual. This week we are learning about the letter "L" so we made paper plate Lions, homemade Lollipops and played several Ladybug games. Afterwards we had a little teaparty/picnic in the family room and ate Lunchables on are toy plates and poured Capri Sun from our toy teapot. Then we all cuddled on the couch and watched "The Dark Crystal" and ruined our teeth with treats from the candy jar. We bundled up as soon as the movie was finished and played in the snow while poor Mark finished the shoveling. We did a little sledding and built a really cool igloo. After dinner we had dessert provided by the Noreaster--snow with bananas and sweet and condensed milk. My sister Kathy introduced us to the dessert way back when we lived in Utah, only instead of snow she used her ice crusher. I decided we could have the same treat, minus the ice crusher, thanks to the snowstorm. All of the boys were delighted and of course, I had seconds. Then we tucked the kids in bed and finished off the day with American Idol and The Amazing Race.

Now don't be mistaken. These sorts of days are few and far between at our house. But when they happen I have to share because it makes me feel like not such a failure. I stand in awe at so many of you mothers that manage to home school your children, can fruit, bake pies and cookies, keep your house and your children clean, prepare healthy, satisfying meals, stay on top of Family Home Evening, family prayer and scripture study, limit TV time, read good books (to your chilren and yourselves), and keep yourselves looking so young and beautiful. You are the real supermoms and it is you that I look up to and hope to be like someday. . . .
