Get Your Shoes On, We're Going On An Adventure

Today, mostly out of guilt (again) I decided we'd better get outside and do something that didn't involve a television or a battery operated something or other. So, I told the boys to get their shoes on because we were going on an adventure and I threw together some sandwhiches and loaded them into the car and headed for a little park not too far from home. It's not your normal park with a playground and lots of kids. No. . . I thought we needed something a little different for this adventure. So, we went to Riverside Park which is basically grass and water, with oodles of sticks and mud and rocks--perfect for little boys. So I spread out the picnic blanket and my beach chair and fed Caleb his lunch and watched the boys throw rocks and dig up onion grass with their fingernails and pick dandelions and basically get down and dirty with nature. After such a soggy weekend, it was very refreshing to be outside in the sun and fresh air and see the boys doing something besides sitting in front of the television, picking their noses and fighting over this and that. Now I just gotta figure out what kind of adventure we're going on tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Looks like a fun adventure. One time I convinced the boys that a walk around the neighborhood was adventurous by challenging them spot every water pipe cover. They are all labeled WATER, and a letter chant began, thereby teaching reading and spelling to the younger ones.

Caleb is so big sitting up!

Cool! I had wanted to go by the waterfall since the big weekend of rain!

Well, there's a big construction site next to the Post Mall--a huge pile of dirt (Ben calls it "the volcano") and lots of heavy machinery.

Or you could stay home and hand out butcher paper and have the boys create their own newspaper/mural/space battle.

I vote for the space battle on paper.

You are such a good mom! That sounds like so much fun! Can I come next time?

Don't go near the post mall to dig. There are naturally occuring Asbestos deposits there. You can look at the trucks. . .but they are trying to clear up the asbestos befor ethey put the Walmart shopping center in.

It's fun to go TO the mall. they are doing FREE Kiddie Kandids 8X10s by the new Target and it's a nice walk down to the Kiddie playground at the other side. You can hit Borders and lounge while reading books too. I did that with Sierra today. and They market reasearch place hands out money for quick surveys so you can probably pay for a train ride too! (That's what we did) And taking them to smell cologne/perfume is fun too.

Great mom! Great boys! Looking at the boys I see: a great smiler, a great floral arranger, a great sandwich eater, and two great hydrologists. Wow! Love from Daddy-A

I want to move to wherever you live! All that stuff Devanie talked about sounds like so much fun - plus the park with the waterfall looks great, too! Great outing!

How about starting a garden? Plant peas right now! Yummm! While Mark is building a chicken pen, have him build a square foot garden...go to squarefootgardening.com. Plant them in one of your outdoor pots until the garden is ready!

Oops...after reading the previous blog (or the next blog if you are behind, like I am) I see you have already started a garden. Good job! How about having Mark build a huge sandbox instead! (Sorry to keep thinking of work for you to do, Mark.)
